Working with Patch Management in LogMeIn Resolve

You can view and manage those devices where there is at least one Windows or third-party application update available. This feature requires a LogMeIn Resolve Complete license.

Note: This feature is available on Windows devices only. Devices running macOS or Windows ARM are not supported.

Depending on how you want to install missing updates, you have the following options:
  • First, select devices on the Devices page and then install available Windows or application updates. This page has an Update details focus view that makes it easy to see devices where missing software updates have the most impact.
  • First, select available software updates on the Devices > Updates page and then select devices where you want to install those updates. This is useful when there are specific applications or Windows patches you want to install.

There are two types of updates that you can install with LogMeIn Resolve on your verified Windows devices:

Important: This feature does not support devices where the system time is out of sync by more than five minutes.
Operating system updates
The list of available updates is provided by Microsoft, including the update's category, severity, and other properties that are all listed on one page. You can select any number of devices that you want to update and, similarly, you can choose any Windows update to deploy to your devices. For example, you may want to install all Windows updates to those remote devices that are currently online. In this case, you can sort devices by their Status.
Tip: Users without an Advanced or Complete license can also view the available Windows updates on remote devices but they cannot install those updates.
Operating system updates are installed by Microsoft's Windows Update service.
Third-party application updates
LogMeIn Resolve uses Windows Package Manager (winget) to update third-party applications installed for all users on a device. To update apps, you can either install all available application updates on selected devices, or install selected application updates on a single device. Third-party apps that you can update with LogMeIn Resolve are listed at https://winget.run/.

Installing updates includes the following steps:

  • First, you should select the devices where you want to install patch management updates. See View available Windows and third-party app updates in LogMeIn Resolve.
  • Then, you can install available updates. See Install Windows and third-party app updates in LogMeIn Resolve.
  • Finally, you can view the installed updates. See View past Windows and application updates in LogMeIn Resolve.
Example:

As a best practice, you should always install the latest mandatory Windows updates to your remote devices. By installing critical updates, you reduce your devices' vulnerability.
