Configure your browser and network for WebRTC

Learn how to configure your browser and network settings to ensure optimal WebRTC functionality.

WebRTC requires specific browser and network configurations to function properly. Follow these steps to verify your setup and ensure optimal performance.

  1. Verify browser compatibility

Ensure you're using an up-to-date version of one of these supported browsers:

    • Google Chrome (desktop and Android)
    • Mozilla Firefox (desktop and Android)
    • Safari
    • Opera (desktop and Android)
    • Microsoft Edge
    • Brave
    • Vivaldi
  2. Enable WebRTC in your browser
    • For Google Chrome, Brave, or Vivaldi:

      • WebRTC is enabled by default
      • Avoid installing extensions that might block WebRTC
    • For Mozilla Firefox:

      • WebRTC is enabled by default
      • To verify settings:
        1. Type about:config in the address bar.
        2. Search for media.peerconnection.enabled.
        3. Make sure that the value is set to true.
    • For Safari:

      • WebRTC is enabled by default
      • Use the latest Safari version for best support
  3. Configure network settings

    Required firewall and port settings:

    • TCP port 443 (HTTPS) - Allow outbound traffic for signaling
    • UDP and TCP port 3478 - Allow bidirectional traffic for STUN/TURN servers
    • UDP ports 50,000 – 65,535 - Open for media streaming

    Bandwidth and latency requirements:

    • Minimum bandwidth: 300-400 kbps
    • Recommended bandwidth: 2 Mbps for high-quality audio/video
    • Optimal latency: Below 100 ms
    • Maximum acceptable latency: 400 ms

For more information consult our allowlisting documentation.

Results:

Upon completing these steps, your browser and network should be properly configured for the WebRTC functionality.
