Wipe a Windows device
The wipe action in LogMeIn Resolve MDM can be used to remove all data from a Windows device.
LogMeIn Resolve MDM provides the following wipe options for Windows devices:
- Regular wipe, which is useful when the device owner changes. While this option erases all data upon successful completion, the wipe process can be interrupted. When the wipe is interrupted, the device attempts to roll back to the pre-wipe state.
- Protected wipe, which is the most secure way of erasing all data from the device, making it unrecoverable. With this feature, if the wipe fails at first, the device will keep retrying the wipe until it is successful. This is especially useful if the device was lost or stolen, and can prevent unauthorized access.
Once the device is wiped, it cannot be managed with LogMeIn Resolve MDM until it is enrolled again.
Important: Protected wipe ensures secure, permanent data deletion on Windows devices by retrying the process until successful. However, boot issues may arise due to rare scenarios like power loss, hardware failure, or system crashes. To prevent these, ensure stable power and functional hardware during the wipe.
If the device becomes unbootable, recovery options include reinstalling the operating system or fixing the bootloader. Successfully erased data remains unrecoverable, even if the device is restored.
What to do next: You can track the progress of the wipe by opening the
Action log tab on the device's page, or by navigating to
