Remotely lock a device

Remote lock is a security feature designed to prevent the misuse of a device if it gets lost or stolen.

Before you begin: A passcode or password must be set on the device prior to locking it remotely. To ensure the use of a secure passcode or password, you can deploy a passcode or password policy to the devices through LogMeIn Resolve MDM as described in the following articles:
  • Device passcode policy for Android
  • Device passcode policy for iOS
  • MacOS password policy for local users
LogMeIn Resolve MDM supports the remote locking of devices running the following operating systems:
  • Android
  • iOS
  • macOS

Lock a device

  1. Navigate to Management > Devices.
  2. Select the device or devices you want to lock by their checkbox, then select Security > Lock device.
  3. In the Lock device wizard, review the details of the device to ensure that you are trying to lock the correct device, then select Lock.

Results: The lock command is sent to the device, and the device gets locked immediately upon receiving the command.

What to do next: You can monitor the process on the Management > Action log page, or by opening the device's page and selecting the Action log tab.

Unlock a remotely locked device

Android and iOS devices can be unlocked by entering the passcode previously created by the user. Devices running macOS can be unlocked by using the Lock device PIN code shown in LogMeIn Resolve MDM.

Follow these steps to unlock a device running macOS:

  1. Navigate to Management > Devices and open the device page of the device you want to unlock by double-clicking it.
  2. Find the Lock device PIN code in one of the following places:
    • On the Main tab, find the Lock device PIN code row in the Security table.
    • On the Action log tab, find the Lock action that was used to lock the device, then hover over the action status (e.g. Completed). The tooltip shows the Lock device PIN code.
  3. Enter the Lock device PIN code on the device.

Results: The device is unlocked.
