Manual Mac enrollment

This article describes how Mac can be enrolled in LogMeIn Resolve MDM by downloading and installing LogMeIn Resolve MDM's MDM profile to the devices.

This enrollment method is intended for enrolling Mac devices without using Apple Automated Device Enrollment, or devices that are already in use, without resetting the device during enrollment.

The difference between manual enrollment and Automated Device Enrollment

Enrolling devices using Automated Device Enrollment is preferred in most organizations for enrolling company-owned devices that are added to Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager because it enables enhanced management capabilities and prevents the removal of the MDM profile from the device.

Manual device enrollment does not require the device to be added to Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager and thus can be used to enroll even privately owned devices in an MDM solution. With manual enrollment, device users with admin privileges can remove the MDM profile from their Mac devices if they wish to do so.

Manually enroll a single Mac device in LogMeIn Resolve MDM

Before you begin: To manually enroll a single Mac device in LogMeIn Resolve MDM, the following requirements must be met:
  • Apple Push Notification service must be configured using a valid Apple Push Certificate on your LogMeIn Resolve MDM site.
  • Physical access to the device is required to complete the enrollment process.
  • Administrator rights on the device are required to complete the enrollment process.
  • The device must run macOS 10.7 or later.
  • The device must have internet connection.
  1. In LogMeIn Resolve MDM, navigate to Enrollment > Enroll device and select Apple.
  2. Enter the device user's email address in the Email field.
  3. Optionally, choose whether to send the enrollment instructions to the user via email or SMS message:
    • Select the Send enrollment by Email checkbox to send the enrollment instructions to the user via email.
    • Select the Send enrollment by SMS checkbox to send the enrollment instructions to the user via SMS message. Select the country code from the drop-down menu, then enter the rest of the phone number in the textbox.
  4. Select Next.
  5. Initiate the enrollment by doing one of the following:
    • On the device, navigate to mdm.gotoresolve.com/enrollnow and follow the instructions on the screen to install the MDM profile.
    • Read the QR code with a third-party application, allow the downloading of the MDM profile, and follow the instructions on the screen to install the MDM profile.
    • If an email message containing the enrollment instructions was sent, select Enroll now from the message and follow the instructions on the screen to install the MDM profile.
    • If an SMS message containing the enrollment instructions was sent, open the link from the message and follow the instructions on the screen to install the MDM profile.

See Enrollment instructions for Mac users for detailed information on installing the MDM profile on the device.

Note: Only one device at a time can be enrolled using the credentials generated by LogMeIn Resolve MDM. To enroll multiple devices simultaneously, see Manually enroll multiple Mac devices in LogMeIn Resolve MDM.

Results: The device is enrolled in LogMeIn Resolve MDM.

What to do next: To make sure that enrollment was successful, you can monitor the progress in LogMeIn Resolve MDM by navigating to Enrollment > Enrollment log.
