Mac scripting

Scripting is a way to automate the execution of certain routine or time-consuming tasks on Mac devices. Scripts can be deployed to devices with a device management solution, and together with the solution's automation possibilities, administrators gain more management options over the organization's macOS devices.

Before you begin: The following requirements must be met to deploy scripts to Mac devices:
  • The device must run macOS Catalina (version 10.15) or a later version.
  • The Miradore client application must be installed on the devices. The Miradore client is automatically installed on Mac devices enrolled in LogMeIn Resolve MDM.
For general information on scripting, see Application management and scripting for macOS devices.

Add a script to LogMeIn Resolve MDM

  1. Navigate to Management > Applications and select Add > macOS application.
  2. Select Script, then select Next.
  3. Fill in the application details as shown in the table below, then select Create to finish uploading the application package.
    Application detail Description
    Description Optional field.

This field can be used to identify the application and its different deployment methods. This may help you identify different deployment types, for example, when deploying further applications or configuring business policies.

    Application name Mandatory field.

The name of the application as seen in LogMeIn Resolve MDM and on the device.

    Script Mandatory field.

The script that will be executed on the macOS device. You may type the script straight in the text field or copy it there from a file.

Important: A shell script must start with the character sequence #! (shebang) followed by the interpreter used to execute the script. For example, #!/bin/bash runs a bash script. For more information, see Apple's documentation or Scripting OS X's blog post.
    Success return codes Optional field.

The return code or a range of return codes for successful execution. Separate the codes by comma, for example, 0,100,200-204. If the field is left empty, the default code, 0, is shown for successful execution.

Required free disk space (MB) Optional field.

Defines the required free disk space in megabytes required for deploying the script.

Automating the script deployment with a business policy

LogMeIn Resolve MDM's business policies offer a way to automate the deployment of your script. This way, when you create and enable the business policy, the script installation is enforced on all devices within the business policy's scope. Learn more about business policies in Creating a business policy.
