Set or change wallpaper on Android devices

With LogMeIn Resolve MDM's wallpaper configuration profile, you can deploy a custom background image to Fully managed Android devices. This allows you to customize both the home and lock screen wallpapers while ensuring that the selected wallpaper remains enforced.

Before you begin: The following requirements must be met to set the wallpaper for managed devices:
  • The device must be enrolled in LogMeIn Resolve MDM as a Fully managed device.
  • Miradore client version 2.8.1 or later is installed on the device.
  • The device is running Android version 7 or later.
    Note: On Android version 6 and lower, only the home screen wallpaper can be set.

The supported file formats for wallpaper images are .jpg and .png, and the maximum file size is 1MB.

Create a Wallpaper configuration profile

The Wallpaper configuration profile makes it easy to set the same wallpaper for multiple devices at once.
  1. Navigate to Management > Configuration profiles and select Add.
  2. Select Android, then select Next.
  3. Select Wallpaper, then select Next.
  4. Upload an image file to LogMeIn Resolve MDM by selecting Browse.
  5. Select where the image is to be set as the background using the Location drop-down menu, then select Next.
  6. Enter a name and description for the configuration profile, and select Create to finish the configuration.
  7. Deploy the configuration profile to the managed Android devices as described in Deploying a configuration profile.

Change the wallpaper for an individual device

You can change the home screen wallpaper for an individual device using the Set wallpaper action on the device's page. This action sets the same image for the device's home and lock screens, and automatically creates a Wallpaper configuration profile, which is immediately deployed to the device.
  1. Navigate to Management > Devices and open the device's page by double-clicking the device entry.
  2. Select Actions > Set wallpaper.
  3. In the Set wallpaper wizard, select an existing image or choose a new one from your computer by selecting Browse or by dragging and dropping a file directly into the wizard.
  4. Select Close to exit the wizard.

Results: The device's home and lock screen wallpapers change to the selected image and a new Wallpaper configuration profile is created in LogMeIn Resolve MDM for future use. The configuration profile has the same name as the image file's name and has no description.

Prevent users from changing the wallpaper

You can restrict device users from modifying their devices' wallpaper by creating a Restrictions configuration profile.
  1. Navigate to Management > Configuration profiles and select Add.
  2. Select Android, then select Next.
  3. Select Restrictions, then select Next.
  4. On the Common restrictions tab, set Wallpaper modification to Denied using the drop-down menu, then select Next.

  5. Enter a name and description for the configuration profile, and select Create to finish the configuration.
  6. Deploy the configuration profile to the managed Android devices as described in Deploying a configuration profile.
What to do next: You can monitor the progress of the configuration profile deployment either on the Management > Action log page or on the device's individual page available under Management > Devices.

Wallpaper deployment through business policy

A business policy allows you to deploy a single wallpaper setting across all devices on your LogMeIn Resolve MDM site or target devices with specific tags. Each business policy can include only one Wallpaper configuration profile, which means you cannot deploy separate configuration profiles to use different wallpapers for the home screen and lock screen.

Troubleshooting

To verify that the wallpaper change is successfully applied to the device, ensure the following:

  • The device is connected to the internet.
  • The device is synced with LogMeIn Resolve MDM. You can manually initiate synchronization by using the Sync now action in the Miradore client on the device or selecting Actions > Sync now on the device's page in your LogMeIn Resolve MDM site.
