Samsung Galaxy Store FAQs
This article explains how using the Samsung Galaxy Store differs from the use of the Google Play store and how you can block the use of the Galaxy Store using LogMeIn Resolve MDM.
What is the Samsung Galaxy Store?
Launched in September 2009, the Samsung Galaxy Store (formerly known as Samsung Apps and Galaxy Apps) is primarily supplied pre-installed on Samsung Galaxy smartphones, Samsung Gear, and feature phones. It works much in the same way as the Google Play store, and notifies the user via the Samsung Push Service when it comes to updates regarding their apps.
What is the difference between the Galaxy Store and Google Play?
Generally, if you have a Samsung phone, the device tends to recommend going through the Galaxy Store to update pre-installed Samsung apps but you might choose Google Play to install other apps. You will likely be able to install an app from the Galaxy Store if it doesn't exist in Google Play.
Even if an administrator blocks the use of Google Play, end-users using Galaxy can still install apps from the Galaxy Store.
To read about blocking or allowing the use of personal Google accounts and blocking their access to the public Google Play store, see our article about restricting the use of personal Google accounts on Android devices.
How can I prevent the use of the Galaxy Store?
You can block the use of the Galaxy Store app the same way as you block other system apps in LogMeIn Resolve MDM: using the Restrictions configuration profile. The package name of the Galaxy Store to be entered into the Blocked system applications field is com.sec.android.app.samsungapps.
