Android Custom Launcher
The Android Custom Launcher feature is enabled through the Home screen & kiosk mode configuration profile, which allows you to set the visibility of specific applications on a device's home screen and configure kiosk mode for the device.
Configuring the visibility of apps on the home screen does not limit access to other apps but offers a unified appearance and experience across devices. Configuring kiosk mode through this configuration profile, on the other hand, limits the use of applications similarly to LogMeIn Resolve MDM's Kiosk mode feature.
For improved stability and simplified kiosk mode management, we recommend using the Home screen & kiosk mode configuration profile for your Android devices instead of the single-app and multi-app kiosk mode configuration profiles.
Requirements
- Device enrolled to LogMeIn Resolve MDM as a Fully managed device
- Android 9 or later
- Miradore client version 2.12.0 or later
Important information
The Kiosk mode and Home screen & kiosk mode configuration profiles cannot be deployed to the same device. If the Kiosk mode configuration profile is currently deployed to a device, it must be removed before deploying the Home screen & kiosk mode configuration profile. Otherwise, the deployment of the Home screen & kiosk mode configuration profile will fail.
In the case of some devices, gesture navigation (available in Android 10 and later) cannot be used to navigate the home screen managed through this configuration profile. This is because some device manufacturers do not include support for third-party launcher applications in their devices. In these cases, the use of the navigation buttons is required to navigate the home screen.
Configuration types for the Home screen & kiosk mode configuration profile
- Home screen only: This configuration type lets you configure the home screen layout with apps that are immediately available from the home screen. Other apps can be accessed through the application drawer. You cannot configure kiosk features and kiosk restrictions when this configuration type is selected.
- Kiosk mode with 1 app: This configuration type sets the device into single-app kiosk mode, where only the defined application can be used and accessed from the home screen. If the application closes unexpectedly, it restarts automatically.
- Kiosk mode with multiple apps: This configuration type lets you configure the home screen layout for kiosk mode devices. Only the defined applications can be used and accessed from the home screen.
