Uninstall the LogMeIn host software

You can manually remove the host software from your computer.

On Windows 7 or newer

  1. Select Start > Control Panel.
  2. Under Programs, select Uninstall a program (Classic view: select Programs and Features).
  3. Select LogMeIn in the list and select Uninstall.

On a Mac

  1. On the Finder menu bar of your desktop, select Go > Applications.
  2. Double-click LogMeIn. The host toolkit is displayed.
  3. On the About tab, select Uninstall.
  4. Select Yes. Uninstallation of LogMeIn Pro begins.

A reboot is recommended, but not required.

Manually uninstall the LogMeIn host software

There may be times when you have to manually remove the host software from a user's computer. Before trying a manual uninstall, try uninstalling via command line.

Note: When uninstalling and reinstalling using the command line on a Windows computer, ensure that the computer is not using an Access code. The access code does not install during a command line installation (but the uninstall removes the LogMeInRemoteUser), leaving the computer inaccessible remotely.

Command line uninstallation on Windows

To perform a command line uninstall, do the following:

  1. Open Command Prompt (If in Windows Vista or newer, make sure you run Command Prompt as an Administrator).
  2. Type cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\LogMeIn\x86" (x64 if using a 64-bit OS) and hit Enter.
  3. Type logmein uninstall and hit Enter.
  4. Once the uninstall is complete, reboot the computer.

Manual uninstallation on Windows

If a command line uninstall is unsuccessful, you can perform a manual uninstall. To perform a manual uninstall, follow the steps below:

  1. Terminate the host services running on the computer. To do this, open the Task Manager and terminate any and all instances of the following:
    • LMIGuardian.exe
    • LogMeIn.exe
    • LogMeInSystray.exe
    • ramaint.exe
  2. Navigate to Program Files (x86) and delete the LogMeIn Folder
  3. Open the Run prompt and type regedit
  4. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software and delete the LogMeIn folder
  5. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software and delete the LogMeIn folder
  6. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Current Control Set\Services and delete the following:
    • LMIInfo
    • LMIMaint
    • LMImirr
    • LMIRfsClientNP
    • LMIRfsDriver
    • LogMeIn
  7. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and delete the LogMeIn GUI string value.
  8. Reboot the computer.

After rebooting the computer, LogMeIn Pro should be uninstalled. If you receive an "Access is denied" error while performing any of these steps, reboot the computer, then continue with uninstallation.

Manual uninstallation on a Mac

  1. Quit the LogMeIn Control Panel if it is still open.
  2. Open the Finder app.
  3. Find the LogMeIn app then select it.

Most apps are in your Applications folder, which you can open by selecting Applications in the sidebar of any Finder window.

  4. Use any of these ways to move the app to the Trash:
    • Drag-and-drop the app to the Trash.
    • Select the app and choose File > Move to Trash from the menu bar.
    • Select the app and press Command-Delete on your keyboard.
  5. If you are asked for a user name and password, enter the name and password of an administrator account on your Mac. This is usually the name and password you use to log in to your Mac.
  6. To delete the app after moving it to the Trash, choose Finder > Empty Trash from the menu bar.

Manual uninstallation on a mobile device

You can remove the LogMeIn client software from a mobile device just as any other app.

Remove the host application files on a Mac

On rare occasions, you may need to remove components of the host for Mac manually after uninstalling.

Tip: The easiest way to remove the host application from a Mac is to drag-and-drop the application to the Bin.

You can run a command from the Terminal, which should remove all components:

  1. Open the Terminal from /Applications/Utilities
  2. Run sudo /Library/Application\ Support/LogMeIn/uninstaller.sh
  3. Enter your admin password. The script removes all host components.
  4. Restart your computer.

You can also try one of the following alternative solutions:

Stop the host process
  1. Open the Terminal from /Applications/Utilities
  2. Type the following command: /Library/Application Support/LogMeIn/bin/LogMeIn.app/Contents/Helpers/LogMeInserverctl stop
  3. If the icon in the taskbar is still displayed, run the following commands in sequence:
    /bin/launchctl unload /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.logmein.logmeinserver.plist 2>/dev/null euid:0 uid:0
    /bin/launchctl bsexec 68 chroot -u 501 -g 20 / /bin/launchctl unload -S Aqua /Library/LaunchAgents/com.logmein.logmeingui.plist 2>&1 euid:0 uid:0
    /bin/launchctl bsexec 68 chroot -u 501 -g 20 / /bin/launchctl unload -S Aqua /Library/LaunchAgents/com.logmein.logmeinguiagent.plist 2>&1 euid:0 uid:0
    /bin/launchctl unload -S LoginWindow /Library/LaunchAgents/com.logmein.logmeinguiagentatlogin.plist 2>/dev/null euid:0 uid:0
  4. Restart your computer.
Remove unnecessary files

Remove the following components from your Mac.

Application folder /Library/Application Support/LogMeIn/
Remote Sound driver extension

/Library/Application Support/LogMeIn/drivers/LogMeInSoundDriver*.kext

or

/System/Library/Extensions/LogMeInSoundDriver*.kext

LMI Printer files /Library/Printers/LogMeIn/LogMeInPrinter.bundle
LMI Daemon and Agent files

/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.LogMeIn.*

/Library/LaunchAgents/com.LogMeIn.*
