Managing third-party applications in LogMeIn Central

With Application Updates you can control how third-party applications are installed on all supported Windows hosts in your account.

Remember: A former LogMeIn Central Premier subscription, or a current LogMeIn Central Base plus Security module subscription is required to use this feature.

Windows only Available on Windows hosts only.

For each computer covered by your former LogMeIn Central Premier subscription or current LogMeIn Central Base plan plus Security module, you can do the following:
  • View list of pending application updates
  • Install application updates
  • View update settings
  • Change update settings on a single host
  • Change update settings on multiple hosts

Required host software: host software for Windows 4.1.0.14892 or newer.

Who can use this feature? Application Update is available to any Account Holder of a former LogMeIn Central Premier subscription, or a current Base plan plus Security module subscription and to the users of such accounts with the following permissions: Application update management.

Make sure your LogMeIn Central version and your Windows OS is supported and is up-to-date. To find out the latest LogMeIn Central version check out the Release Notes.

Applications you can manage with Application Updates

Application Updates is a feature available to former LogMeIn Central Premier and current LogMeIn Central Base plan plus Security module subscribers.

Application Updates uses OPSWAT as a provider and supports computers running host version 4.1.0.14892 or later. To see which applications OPSWAT supports, visit their website.

Activate Application Updates

Select the host computers for which you want to activate Application Updates.

Windows only Available on Windows hosts only.

  1. In LogMeIn Central, go to Updates > Applications.
  2. Select host computers.
  3. At the top of the page, select Actions > Change Settings.

    Result: The Change Settings menu is displayed.

  4. Select one of the following options:
    Option Description
    Disabled Automatic Updates will be unavailable.
    Manual Information on available updates is collected but not installed.
    Automatic All available updates are installed.
    Note: The software scans for updates between 12am and 6am or when the host is turned on after those times.
  5. Select Save Settings.

    Result: The End-User License Agreement pop-up appears.

  6. Select the I accept all third-party EULA and T&C/TOS that may be required to complete application update and I have reviewed and accept the applicable terms of OPSWAT's™ Patch Management Terms of Service and Privacy Policy checkboxes. Since Terms of Service and Privacy Policy are integral parts of the Application Updates feature, make sure you read these before you proceed.
  7. Select Accept.

    Result: The Updates > Applications screen is displayed.

What to do next:

During installation, you may encounter the following errors:

Update third-party applications on a single host

Choose how applications are updated with OPSWAT on the host.

Windows only Available on Windows hosts only.

  1. In LogMeIn Central, go to Updates > Applications page.

    Result: The Updates > Applications page is displayed.

  2. Select the host you want to update.
  3. Select Apply Updates.

    Result: The Apply updates page is displayed.

  4. Select the applications you want to update.
  5. Select Apply updates.

    Result: A notification appears in the Updates > Applications page.

Results: The updates are applied to any host that is online. For any host that is offline, the updates are applied when the host next comes online.

Update third-party applications on multiple hosts

Apply application updates on multiple hosts.

Windows only Available on Windows hosts only.

  1. In LogMeIn Central, go to Updates > Applications page.

    Result: The Updates > Applications page is displayed.

  2. Select the hosts you want to update.
  3. Select Apply Updates.

    Result: The Apply updates page is displayed.

  4. Select the applications you want to update.
    Note: LogMeIn Central detects every application with an available update. If multiple versions of an application are detected, each is displayed with its relevant version number.
  5. Optional: Select Show details at the top of the page to check which computers will receive the selected updates. Select Hide details to return to the list of updates.
  6. Select Apply updates.

    Result: A notification appears in the Updates > Applications page.

Results: The updates are applied to any host that is online. For any host that is offline, the updates are applied when the host next comes online.

Common Error Messages

Error Message Resolution
Unable to download the Application Updater. A third-party software or firewall is blocking the installation. See LogMeIn Central and Firewalls

Disabling the Application Updater

  1. In LogMeIn Central, go to Updates > Applications.
  2. Select the host computers you want to update.
  3. Select Change Settings.

    Result: The Change Settings menu is displayed.

  4. Select Disabled.
  5. Select Apply updates.

Application Updater gets stuck during install

When the command was sent to the host, the signal was interrupted or lost connection temporarily or your host is running an older version of the host software.

Symptom

When trying to install the Application Updater, the installation fails to complete.

Solution One: Update the host software

The required host software is version 14838 or higher.

To update the software:

  1. From the host computer, open the LogMeIn Control Panel
  2. Select About.
  3. Select Check for Updates.

The host will update to the most recent available version of the host software.

Solution Two: Restart the installation

  1. In LogMeIn Central, go to the Updates > Applications menu on the left.
  2. Select the host that is experiencing the issue.
  3. Select Change Settings.
  4. Set Update options to Disabled and select Save settings.
  5. Select the host again and select Change Settings.
  6. Set Update options to Manual and select Save settings.

The Application Updater is pushed to the host.

Note: Installation can take several minutes.
