Changes to Application Updates in LogMeIn Central

GoTo replaces the provider of the Application Updates feature in LogMeIn Central to support more apps.

From November 30, 2022, the new Application Updates software will be generally available: computers running host version 4.1.0.14892 or later will be automatically updated to use the new Application Updates software. Computers running an earlier host version will continue to use the current vendor until January 30, 2023. We recommend that you update all your computers to the latest host version to ensure a smooth transition.

Please note that on January 31, 2023, Application Updates will be disabled on computers running an older host version. On these computers, after upgrading to the latest host version, you will have to manually change application updates to "Manual" or "Automatic".

Why do we recommend the software update?

The new Application Updates feature supports more apps, which makes it easier for you to keep third-party software on your hosts up-to-date. As an additional benefit, the security of Application Updates will also improve. In the future, you will also have the ability to add more features such as vulnerability checks and listing remediation items. Make sure you regularly check out our release notes.

How can you continue using Application Updates?

Until January 30, 2023, you can still use the old Application Updates software, whether you update your hosts or not. Notice however that you can no longer use Application Updates on new computers running the old host software.

To make a seamless transition from one Application Updates provider to the other, before January 30, 2023, you must update the host software on your computers to the latest version and accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy of the new Application Updates provider.

To see which hosts must be updated, go to Computers page and list your hosts in Detail View. To update the host, click the Version number of each host where host version is 14838 or earlier.

How can you switch to the new Application Updates provider?

You should update the host software on your computers and accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy as follows:
  1. On the Computers page, make sure you are in Detailed View.
  2. Find the computer that you want to update.
  3. Click the host version in the Version column to update the computer to the latest host version.

The host is automatically updated in the background. Refresh the page to see when the version number changes to the latest one.

  4. On the Updates > Applications page, select the host that you have just updated and click Change Settings at the top of the page.
  5. Change the Update option to Manual or Automatic. See How to Activate Application Updates.
Note: This setting is inherited from the old Application Updates provider. That is, if it was set to Automatic, then the Automatic option will be selected.
  6. Click Save settings.
  7. Read and accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy and then click Accept.

What if you do not update to the recommended host version until January 30, 2023?

Older host versions do not support the new Application Updates provider, OPSWAT®. Therefore, on January 31, 2023, the Application Updates feature will automatically be disabled on computers running host version 4.1.0.14838 and earlier.

This also means that if you have updated only some of your computers to the latest host version, then from January 31, 2023, the Application Updates feature will run on the updated computers and will be disabled on the remaining ones.

What if you update to the recommended host version but you do not accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy of the new provider?

OPSWAT®, the new provider, makes it mandatory to accept their Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, which are integral parts of the Application Updates feature. Until you accept these, Application Updates will be disabled on your hosts.

What happens when the Application Updates feature is disabled?

Disabling Application Updates is safe; however, applications on your hosts will not receive any updates. If Application Updates is turned off, you can still perform batch updates with One2Many or Remote Execution, but these are less user-friendly solutions and you would have to be able to perform silent updates from command line. When the Application Updates feature is disabled, you can still use and apply Windows Updates, but you will not receive third-party automation.

How do you re-enable the Application Updates feature if needed?

The Application Updates feature is easy to turn on and off. Simply follow the instructions in How to Activate Application Updates.
